International scientific council

Noradapt established an international scientific council in october 2021. The five members are internationally renown scientist in the area of sustainable climate change adaptation.

The council is a resource for the centre. In addition to commenting the work of the centre and regularly participate in meetings, the members will be asked to contribute to project applications and to participate in a forthcoming book series edited by Noradapt.


Sirkku Juhola is Professor of Urban Environmental Policy at the University of Helsinki and Visiting Professor at Linköping University.

She directs the international scientific council and is a Research Fellow at the Western Norway Research Institute.

Juhola is particularly engaged in environmental policy and environmental management, with emphasis on cities and urban areas.


Maria C. Lemos is Professor of Sustainability and Development and Climate + Energy at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan.

She researches climate adaptation and the role of knowledge in building adaptive capacity.


Benjamin K. Sovacool is Professor of Energy Policy at the University of Sussex Business School in the United Kingdom and is a Research Fellow at the Western Research Institute, connected to Noradapt.

Sovacool researches topics such as energy transition and climate change adaptation and social justice.



Richard J. T. Klein is Senior Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and a Professor of Geography Climate Policy and Development at Linköping University.

is an internationally leading expert on the science and policy of adaptation to climate change.


Frank Berkhout is Professor of Environment, Society, and Climate at King’s College in London.

He was the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy between 2015 and 2021.
